Introducing Wet Cleaning – The Eco-Friendly, Gentle Alternative to Dry Cleaning
We are proud to offer industry-leading wet cleaning service with new Electrolux lagoon® Advanced Care technology. It is just as effective — if not better — than dry cleaning, but with fewer environmental and fabric-related downsides.
Wet Cleaning vs. Dry Cleaning: What’s the Difference?
Dry cleaning is a cleaning method that uses chemical solvents (instead of water) to clean fabrics. The most common solvent historically used is perchloroethylene (PERC), although newer, less toxic alternatives are becoming more popular. The process is called “dry” because no water is used in the cleaning procedure, but the solvent effectively removes stains and dirt from clothing.
Lagoon® Advanced Care Wet Cleaning is a safe, eco-friendly cleaning process that uses water, biodegradable detergents, and specialised equipment to clean delicate fabrics. Unlike traditional washing machines, wet cleaning uses computer-controlled machines that regulate the water temperature, spin cycle, and drying process to ensure clothes are cleaned gently but effectively. Wet cleaning is often a preferred method for cleaning fabrics that cannot be machine washed at home, such as wool, silk, and fine cottons.
There is a very limited number of non-washable fabrics which benefit from dry cleaning, so we offer both services, as well as straightforward bulk laundry and ironing service. However, for the vast majority of delicate or natural fabrics we recommend wet cleaning as a process which is kinder to your skin, your clothes and the environment.
Advantages of Electrolux lagoon® Advanced Care Cleaning
Environmentally Friendly: Wet cleaning uses biodegradable detergents and water, avoiding the use of harsh chemicals like perchloroethylene (PERC), which is used in dry cleaning.
Safe for Delicate Fabrics: It’s an effective yet gentle way to clean delicate fabrics without risking shrinkage or distortion, especially when compared to traditional home washing.
Effective Stain Removal: Part of the cleaning process is pre-treatment with specialist stain-removers.
Safe for Sensitive Skin: Since wet cleaning uses water-based solutions, there’s a lower risk of irritating your skin compared to the chemical residues that can sometimes remain in dry-cleaned clothing.
Endorsed by Experts: The Hohenstein Institute has conducted comparative tests on the effects of wet cleaning (lagoon® Advanced Care) versus traditional solvent cleaning on delicate garments. After more than 10 cleaning cycles, the tests showed equal or comparable results in terms of textile wear, dimensional change, and color loss. These results confirm that wet cleaning offers a highly effective alternative to solvent-based dry cleaning. Test results are available upon request.
The wool programs in on the lagoon® wet-cleaning system have been approved by The Woolmark Company since 2004 for cleaning Woolmark garments labelled as dry-clean only. In UK, Eire, Hong Kong and India the Woolmark Logo trade mark is a certification trade mark.
Intelligent Dosing: This feature defines the effective weight of the load and adjusts the detergents and water levels accordingly, ensuring the most efficient use of resources without compromising garment care.
Power Balance: This ensures that even when processing different loads, the correct extraction force is applied for optimal dewatering. This leads to better drying performance, reducing the risk of wrinkles and shrinkage.
Moisture Balance: This function monitors moisture retention and determines the exact moment when garments are fully dry. This prevents over-drying, which can lead to fabric shrinkage or wrinkles, ensuring that clothes are ready to wear straight from the machine.
